I am excited to go home tomorrow for thanksgiving break because I know when I walk in the door I will get tackled by this prize right here. Her name is Katie and she is the best puppy I have ever known. She enjoys long car rides (especially when we are headed to the doggie park) and dragging you on a leash. Yes, this dog actually will pull you instead of the other way around. She is quite a strong dog and has a LOT of energy. Now, when I say a lot, I mean a whole ton! She is very energetic and I believe God gave me this dog to help with my fear of dogs. I have been afraid of dogs and hated them up until I was blessed to have been brought Katie a few years back this being about 10 years after my almost fatal run in with a previous dog. When I was younger, around the age of 7, a terrible accident occurred at home in my front yard, with my first pet, Bandit. Now, Bandit was not always the best dog like Katie she was a wild dog who had no self control. This dog was very rambunctious but not in a good way. She often would growl at guests who would come over and nibble as well. Long story short she was not always the nicest dog. Anyway, back to the story of when I was 7. Well, I was just coming back from a vacation with my family and I was excited to greet my dog, Bandit. Little did I know my dog had a T-bone from a steak in his mouth. As a child I did not know that dogs would be very protective of meat they had in their mouth. This being said I went up to my dog and decided it was a good idea to pet him. He was shocked and thought I was taking away his T-bone so my dog reacted by pinning me down on the ground and biting the left side of my face. My dog continued to chew on the left side of my face until finally I heard a scream come from my mother as she dropped all of the groceries to run to me to help in any way possible. Then my dad came outside after hearing my mother screaming and calling for him. My dad grabbed Bandit off of me and threw him across the yard in a panic. He is a real hero and saved my life, if my dad wouldn't have grabbed my dog off of me I am not sure I would be here today. After a long ride to the emergency room I was in the doctors office waiting to be called in. I had to undergo several tests to see if there was anything severely wrong. I did not have any major damage surprisingly, just a lot of cuts along the left side of my neck and a hole throw my left ear. If it would have been any later I would not have lived because my dog, Bandit, was 3 centimeters from my jugular vein and if he would have bit that I would have died. After this traumatic experience I was very closed minded to dogs as I should have been and did not want another one again. That was until my sister decided to ask for a puppy for her 16th birthday, now if you knew the situation you would know my sister gets whatever she asks for, including puppies. My dad took her out to the farm to pick up a new pet for us to have at home, and I was ultimately horrified. Yes, it had been years since my dog attacked me but I was still very skeptical of dogs in general. I did not want another dog ever again, period. I was now more of a cat lover. I did not like this new dog called Katie for quite sometime. Not until she laid on my lap licking me over and over for the first time did I warm up to her. She was not like Bandit at all, she was so kind and loving. I loved her as well and so I admitted it to myself and my family. Katie helped me to get over my fear of dogs and to start loving them again because I realized not all dogs are like Bandit. This beautiful dog I have has definitely blessed me with friendship as well as companionship. I love her very much and would never change our bond for the anything.
